A man is facing assault charges after breaking an officer's tooth after punching him in the face.

From HRPD:

A 31 year old Halifax man will appear in court today to face charges of assault police, assault causing bodily harm, attempt to disarm a police officer and domestic assault in relation to an incident on Portia White Court in Halifax at approximately 10:40pm, yesterday.

Officers were called to an address in the 2400 block of Portia White Court in relation to a dispute between a male and female. When officers arrived, the accused was in the driveway area of the residence attempting to leave. The officers approached the male to engage him in conversation. The accused punched one of the officers in the face, cutting his lip and breaking his tooth. He grabbed the officer around the waist and was attempting to disarm him of his firearm. Other members arrived to assist. They were also kicked, punched and spat upon by the accused who was eventually subdued with the use of a taser.

He was taken to the QE11 for treatment and released. He will appear in Halifax court sometime today.
