First Black School Board Chairman Elected
Irvine Carvery has been elected as the Halifax Regional School Board's chairman, making him the first African-Canadian to hold that position in history.
"It’s significant in the fact that it’s the first, but I think that’s where it lies — it’s just the first. I feel humbled and I feel very honoured that my fellow board members would choose me to chair the Halifax regional school board."
