Bedford South School open Friday

Bedford South School will be open on Friday, March 12. The school had been closed on Thursday because of a malfunctioning boiler.

Birch Cove Waterfront Area Master Plan

Residents and stakeholders are invited to attend a public meeting on March 22 for the presentation of the draft Birch Cove Waterfront Area Master Plan.

The plan charts the future re-development of the Birch Cove Area in the vicinity of the Kearney Lake Road/Bedford Highway, including much of the surrounding waterfront area around the Chinatown Restaurant.

Halifax Regional Municipality and Waterfront Development Corporation initiated the planning process in March 2009.

A steering committee comprised of community residents, property owners and developers was formed to oversee the process and make recommendations to Regional Council. A consulting team was also engaged to assist in the design work....

Stay of ice surfaces

A young Bedford resident enjoys skating on Paper Mill Lake during a cold spell.

On March 10 at 6:50 p.m. police were called to the Frog Pond on Purcells Cove Road where a caller to police indicated that three children were playing on the ice and it seemed to be breaking up around them.

The temperature over the past few days had been very mild and the ice was not considered safe to be walking on.

Three young teenagers were located sitting on a rock approximately ten feet from the shore line. It was learned that prior to police arrival one boy had fallen into the water waist deep.

All there children were safely removed from the water and two were transported to the IWK Hospital as a precaution.
